Portobello Road Market runs through the heart of Notting Hill, stretching almost a mile from Notting Hill Gate to Golborne Road. It is most famous for antiques — hundreds of stalls on Saturday mornings — but the street also has a daily fruit and vegetable market, vintage clothing stalls, and some of the best food stalls in west London.
The Antiques Section
The antiques stretch from Chepstow Villas north to Elgin Crescent — concentrated in the arcades and on the street itself on Saturday mornings, when dealers from across Britain gather. Prices range from hundreds of pounds to a few pence for vintage postcards. Even if you buy nothing, it is one of the great London spectacles.
The Notting Hill Carnival Connection
Notting Hill Carnival, held every August Bank Holiday, is Europe’s largest street festival — two million people over two days. The route runs through the same streets as the market. The District line at Notting Hill Gate is the best way to arrive and depart.
